This is a fully automatic intermittent motion blister packaging machine with a capacity of up to 50 cycles per minute. The maximum output is 200 blisters per minute, depending on blister size.

The machine is of 'balcony construction': all relevant stations are individual modules, which are cantilevered on a large aluminium plate forming the front of the machine cabinet. The rest of the machine cabinet is made of fabricated steel and houses the drive unit, gear trains, chain drives and electrical control equipment.

PVC, PVC/PVDC, PVC/Aclar film is extracted from a reel and is first heated and softened and then drawn into the blister forming station. The blisters are formed in the mould with the aid of compressed air - the web is then pulled forward, up and through the feeding area where the blisters are filled with product.

The filled blisters now pass into the sealing station where they are covered with aluminium foil which is pulled from a reel mounted above. The heated top sealing plate on this station incorporates coding digits to allow a code to be stamped as the blisters are sealed. Pneumatically operated clamps then pull the tape forward through a short cooling plate before it is cut from the tape.

The web now passes into the guillotine cutting station, where the blisters are cut and discharged into a chute where they can be collected in a special container.

All operator controls are located in a console on the right-hand side, including thermostats and temperature indicators. Two large interlocking Perspex sliding doors protect the operator from the moving parts of the machine. Hinged doors at the rear of the machine cabinet provide easy access for cleaning and maintenance.
