This Qualicaps inspection machine combines computer image processing technology and CCD line-sensor camera with the capsule grinding-transfer mechanism. The appearance of the capsule is inspected by directly capturing the image with the camera, checking its orientation and rotating the capsule during intermittent transfer. The small footprint of the installation allows direct connection to a filling machine and the filling machine can be inspected according to the percentage of defects detected. Inspection is fast and highly accurate. The multi-row rotary grinding system is used to control the direction and stop the rotation of the capsules for inspection at a throughput of 50,000 capsules per hour, resulting in high inspection accuracy without blind spots. The capsule grinding and transport mechanism, which has a proven track record in filling and sealing machines, provides gentle capsule feeding and stable inspection accuracy, making unmanned operation possible. The following defects can be detected: foreign bodies, dirt, tears, broken capsules, chips, punctures, crushing, cracks, dents, double capsules, capsule creases, tears (non-articulated capsules), dissimilarity, unprinted capsules, length and printing defects. Capsule grinding is performed by multi-line rotary grinding equipment. Thanks to grinding, high-speed inspection accuracy and image processing has become possible, which is superior in terms of stability and reliability. The ground capsules are transferred to the inspection drum, which rotates intermittently at high speed. With parallel illumination, highly accurate and reliable inspections are possible without blind spots. Defective capsules are discharged from the inspection drum by rotating intermittently with compressed air. The graphic panel comes as standard and current operation and inspection can be controlled by camera, line by line in real time.

The machine inspects filled hard capsules by meticulously inspecting pharmaceutical or nutraceutical products. The unit allows the accurate inspection of the capsules' appearance by linear colour cameras with the possible consequent immediate ejection from the production line by means of an appropriate rejection system, should anomalies be detected on the product by the machine.
