In the modern industrial panorama, robots are increasingly used, not only to automate industrial production processes at the highest level, but also they are used in high-risk tasks, preventing people... from carrying out operations that are dangerous to their own safety. Robots are mechanical arms to which commands are transmitted in order to perform a precise task in a repetitive manner. The movements that the robots can perform vary according to the number of axes for which they are set up. The axes normally vary from a minimum of 2 for the simplest robots to a maximum of 6 for the most versatile and complex ones. Another important feature to consider when talking about robots is the reach width. With the outreach width we indicate the maximum distance that the robotic arm can cover in performing the task assigned to it. Last but not least, the robot's load-bearing capacity, i.e. the mass weight that can be lifted and moved by the robot, must be taken into account. Robots are often a so-called servo technology for other machines. We will talk about anthropomorphic robots when their use is intended to serve another machine tool, for example when it is used to load and unload the finished parts of a machining center. The use of robots is also addressed in tasks such as the handling of heavy and dangerous parts resulting from foundry operations, welding and industrial painting.
