The probe is housed in a gantry upright which, depending on the type of machine, may or may not move along the three axes x, y and z. The probe moves along the entire surface of the object and at the same time detects the position coordinates. These measurements are necessary in order to detect the presence or absence of discrepancies in the finished object with respect to the desired shape and size. Any anomalies with respect to the original shape and dimensions will be rectified in subsequent machining operations in order to finally obtain the finished object perfectly corresponding to the initial design. The various types of measuring machine differ according to whether the structure of the measuring machine is a fixed gantry, a mobile gantry or a horizontal arm.
