3D printers are machines that produce objects by processing a three-dimensional digital model. The production of objects is additive type and is different from production by mean of machine tools... because the object takes shape by adding material and not by removing it. Normally the materials most commonly used for current production using 3D printers are polymers, resins, metals and powders. The realization of the desired object takes place through a layering process, the machine places one layer on top of the other in order to obtain the desired shape at the end. The 3D printers differ from each other for the printing technology used, there are different printers for each material used and each type of printer also differs in mechanics and functioning. In the field of metalworking industry, the most common types of 3D printers used are the printers that exploit the technology for laser sintering of metals. These are widely used in the aero-space and automotive sector for the realization of very complex pieces that would otherwise be very complicated to realize with traditional cnc machine tools.
