Lapping machine is a machine tool that is used for finishing operations in the metalworking industry. Lapping essentially consists in bringing a disk, usually made of pearlitic cast iron, into... contact with the workpiece at very low speeds. This operation does not only take place at very low speeds, but also the pressure executed on the piece by the copper disc is very low, normally not exceeding two kilograms per square centimetre. As far as the lapping of cylindrical surface pieces is concerned, special machines called centerless lapping machines are used. In this type of machine the piece comes into contact not only with one disc but with two discs with different diameters, where the smaller disc drags the piece to be processed into contact with the second larger disc sprinkled with abrasive that performs the actual lapping.
