Deep-hole drilling machines are machines used to drill holes of a lenght at least ten times higher the diameter of the tool. Deep hole drilling can be performed by two... different methods, the first method is called "gundrilling"", while the second method is called deep hole drilling "with BTA/STS tools". Both methods have strengths and are used according to the type of workpiece to be machined. The "gun drill" method uses tool called gundrill with internal oil lubrication. The swarf produced during drilling and the oil used are ejected through the external groove of the tool. In contrast, in the "BTA/STS tooling" method, both the oil and the swarf produced by drilling follow the reverse path of the first method. The oil is fed outside the cutting tool through adductors. This method is therefore limited to drilling in materials that have good machinability and sufficiently large diameters.
