Description*
The continuous automatic checkweighing machine essentially consists of a plinth whose task is to support the scale and the device for transporting objects. A comparison scale of high sensitivity and readiness, equipped with an electromagnetic detector that transforms into an electrical signal the position that the plate of the scale assumes, burdened by the weight dragging on it. A belt conveyor, and a projector-photocell assembly that signals the instant when the object is about to leave the scale pan.
The scale is placed in a line to transport the objects to be checked of any nature and shape. The transcending object takes a certain amount of time to travel all the way across the scale pan; this time, although small, is sufficient for the scale to settle into the position proportional to the weight of the object. When the object is about to leave the scale pan, it intercepts a light beam that passes through the conveyor. The phototransistor receiver, thus obscured, provides the electronic circuit with the command to take a weight reading at that precise instant. This weight value is immediately compared with the two values, lower and upper, set as the limits of the allowable tolerance. This comparison gives rise to the machine's decision whether or not to accept the weighing, that is, whether to allow the object to continue undisturbed, or to deflect or eject it to the right or left of its path, depending on whether its weight was found to be in excess or under the predetermined tolerance.
